Mom Bloggers and Insurance

Have you heard of gapingvoid?
The owner of the company is a cartoonist.
Our company discovered gapingvoid at a Sitkins event hosted in Boston in March 2011.
One of the insurance agencies we met, HNi, employed gapingvoid to develop cartoons for them.
Here are two cartoons Hugh McLeod created for them: HNi Blog, gapingvoid blog
Pretty cool right.
Thinking outside the box, right?
(thank you Sitkins, thank you HNi)
Well, I subscribed to Hugh's daily cartoons and Tuesday evening the below image appeared in my inbox.

Awesome, right?
There are so many mom bloggers out there that can appreciate this artwork.
Heck, I want to buy a limited edition print right now, and I just might.
I'm a professional and I blog for the company from my desk, but occassionally I will blog on the couch, in the road {as a passenger of course}, in an airplane, on a park bench, at the beach, from my iPhone and on.
This is a shout-out to all the moms in blogland. Thanks you for contributing your voice to the blog-o-sphere.
A shout-out to Hugh for creating awesome art for moms and insurance agents alike.
A shout-out to Sitkins and HNi for introducing me to gaping void.
If you want to get awesome cartoons from Hugh, you can subscribe here.
They may not resonate with you every day, but some days you may crack a smile and think {oh so true} or you may find yourself laughing so hard you're crying... and your coworkers {or children} want in on the joke.

How We Came To Be

Our company was founded forty years ago.

We are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. I'm sure you understand after reading about our Business Networking 40th Anniversary Party and our PIN-Up Award.
We are putting together the history of Murray & MacDonald, you can find it here.
As I began research on the history of our agency, I thought it would be a great idea to learn more about how other individuals joined the insurance industry.
You can read about how I came into the insurance industry at 'insurance is a career'?
Wouldn't it be great to read about many other people?
The CEO of an insurance company, a VP of Finance, a receptionist, a claims adjuster, producer, and so forth...
Well my friends, you are about to find out how many different people joined into the insurance industry, how long they have been in insurance, why they stayed, what is important about the industry, and so forth.
Check back next Wednesday for the first in a series of 'Working Wednesdays' posts to learn more about the face of the insurance industry!

Credit Score vs Protection Score

{image}
Are you familiar with a Credit Score?
Per wikipedia, a credit score is: a numerical expression based on a statistical analysis of a person's credit files, to represent the creditworthiness of that person.
In layman's terms, the ability to borrow money and pay it down on a regular basis.
Do you use a credit card? Do you own a home? Do you have a student loan? How about a car loan?
If you have any of these items, you have a credit score. The FICO credit scores range from 300-850. Many people take time to check their Credit Score. It's important to them, especially if they want to borrow money.
If you don't need to borrow money, you don't need a credit score, per Dave Ramsey (and sometimes you can have a mortgage without having a FICO score).
You've heard a lot about a Credit Score, but have you heard about a Protection Score?
Your protection score is an objective score indicating how your current lifestyle may change if you run into something unexpected in life, such as a home fire, a serious car accident, a flood, a death in the family. Your protection score indicates how protected your lifestyle is, due to an unexpected loss.
